We migrate applications within the care sector on daily basis and have experience with projects at clinics, hospitals and other institutions.
The most important aspect of the care sector is the patient and his or her details. This always comes first.
Extra care must therefore be given to complying with privacy law, both digitally and physically.
After all, our engineers may often have to work in departments or on wards where patients are present. It is up to us to deal with this as carefully as possible so that our activities cause as little disruption as possible.
We are aware that this is a privacy-sensitive work environment, where security measures are paramount. These are strictly upheld by us. You’ll never come across an unlocked computer when we’re around.
Within care institutions, we often have to deal with several companies, i.e. several small business that operate within a single care institution. We ensure that support is provided across the organisation. We are also in an excellent position to ensure that all involved parties have the same goal in sight and are kept updated about processes and progress.
Flexible & stable
Doctors and nurses almost never have a fixed place of work. Take an IC bed, for example. Each bed has its own computer, which could be used by as many as 30 different doctors and nurses. It is therefore important in this situation to have a fast and stable workspace with built-in redundancy.
Various types of hardware that are seldom seen any more also pop up here, such as the CTG scanners in the obstetrics department, or the ECG in the cardiology department. These are often life-saving pieces of equipment that have to work properly. A fault results in top-level emergencies and is therefore completely undesirable.
We regularly package applications on-site, such as an MRI scanner. This simply can’t be moved, so testing has to take place on location. Naturally, this is also done for even more equipment, such as pill-sized cameras or echo equipment in departments such as radiology, cardiology, urology, podology and gynaecology. Software is available here to convert everything to video format. These are often complex applications used for scripting/packaging.
A lot of software is supplied in one big file (setup.ext), which in turn contains various pieces of software that invoke each other during installation. We always take application dependencies into consideration.
The virtual workspace
Increasing numbers of care institutions, especially hospitals, are offering virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI). This a good development, because it can be used to reduce management costs and increase stability. Naturally, it is important for the applications to migrate properly.
Care works around the clock. We are often expected not to have a 9-to-5 mentality. We work a lot with consultation hours or extremely busy doctors, who are unable to do testing or a functional intake with us at normal times of day. We adapt ourselves to this in order to keep the impact on the organisation to a minimum.
The applications we migrate have to work 100% properly. Everything then also has to be packaged and tested as exhaustively as possible in the OTAP line with test accounts and fictitious data.
